Tourism Activities increases in 2006 and 2007 at high growth rates, higher than those of the economy - 2005 / 2006
21 December 2007

Summary
After slowing down in 2005, reflecting partly the basic effect of the Euro 2004, tourism activities increased again at high growth rates in the two following years. In nominal terms Tourism consumption Expenditure increased 3,2% e 8,1%, respectively, in 2005 and 2006, and an even higher growth of 10,8% is estimated for 2007. The Value Added generated by Tourism changed in nominal terms, 2,6% e 10,3%, in 2005 and 2006, respectively, and lightly slowed down to 8,7% in 2007, mainly due to the higher costs associated to the transportation of tourists. Nonetheless, in 2007 a nominal growth of this variable significantly superior to the total economy is expected, in line with 2006.
