In the 4th quarter of 2021, national airports handled 9.8 million passengers (+212.9% compared to the same period of 2020). Compared to the same period of 2019, there was a decrease of 26.9%.
Passengers transported by train and by metro grew 40.6% and 44.9%, corresponding to 39.8 and 48.6 million users, respectively. In comparison to the same period of 2019, there were a decrease of 18.9% and 35.1%, respectively.
In the 4th quarter of 2021, the transport of passengers by inland waterways increased by 37.2% compared to the Q4 2020 (+6.5% in the Q3 2021), reaching 3.8 million passengers, and decreased by 29.2% compared to the Q4 2019.
Regarding to the transport of goods, by air the increase compared to Q4 2020 was less significant than in the previous quarter (+31.5%; +52.5% in Q3 2021; +108.3% in Q2 2021), corresponding to a decrease of 2.9% when compared to Q4 2019. By rail there were increases of 7.5% compared to the same period of 2020 (+16.5% in Q3 2021) and +3.9% compared to the same period of 2019. By sea there was a decrease of 1.2% compared to Q4 2020 (+0.7% in Q3 2021), also registering a decrease compared to Q4 2019 (-3.6%). Road transport continued to grow slightly in the 4th quarter of 2021 (+1.2%; +1.6% in Q3 2021).
Preliminary results for 2021 reveal an increase in passenger transport by air (+39.3%; -69.4% in 2020), by train (+11.5%; -38.8% in 2020), and by inland waterway (+2.0%; -42.8% in the previous year), and a decrease in passenger transport by subway (-2.8%; -48.1% in 2020).
In relation to freight transport in 2021, all modes of transport increased in comparison to the previous year: the air transport registered an increase of 29.8% (after -30.2% in 2020), the rail 11.0% (-7.6% in 2020), the road 11.2% (-14.8% in 2020) and the sea 5.2% (-7.0% in the previous year).
In 2021, in oil pipeline transport there was an increase of 7.6% compared to the previous year (-31.7% in 2020). Regarding gas transportation by pipeline, there was a slight decrease in inputs (-0.1%; -3.3% in 2020) and a slight increase in outputs (+0.3%; -3.2% in 2020).
