Summary
The Portuguese Consumer Price Index (CPI) went up 0.1% in January 2010 when compared with January 2009. Excluding energy and unprocessed food, the annual rate decreased to -0.6%. On a monthly basis, the CPI decreased to -0.5% (0.1% in December 2009 and -0.7% in January 2009). The CPI 12-month average rate of change remained unchanged in January (-0.8%).
In January, the Portuguese Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) annual inflation rate was 0.1% (-0.1% in December 2009), 0.9 percentage points (p.p.) below the rate estimated by Eurostat for the Euro area.
