Computing services continue to stand out with the biggest growth in representativeness and value in Services Rendered to Enterprises - 2022

Summary

In 2022, the value of Services Provided to Enterprises (SPE) grew by 20.5% (-4.5 p.p. above the total for non-financial companies), reaching EUR 25.5 billion, accelerating growth by 4,3 p.p. compared to 2021 and 22.1 p.p. compared to 2020. Compared to 2019, there was a growth of 37.8%.

Gross Value Added (GVA) increased by 20.7% (+15.1% in 2021 and +3.8% in 2020; +44.1% compared to 2019), reaching EUR 15.6 billion euros, thus recording a variation greater than that of the total of non-financial companies (+18.9%). On the other hand, the Gross Operating Surplus (GOS) grew by 15.4% (+11.2% in 2021 and +10.1% in 2020; +41.3% compared to 2019), amounting to EUR 4.1 billion, lower variation than that recorded in total non-financial companies (+24.0%).

These results correspond to 143.5 thousand enterprises (+6.8%; +6.3% in 2021 and +1.4% in 2020; +15.0% compared to 2019), employing 506 thousand persons (+8.4%; +7.7% in 2021 and -3.0% in 2020; +13.3% compared to 2019). All Business Services showed growth in this variable (persons employed) in 2022, with emphasis on the Computing and Market research and public opinion polling sectors standing out with the highest increase (+14.3% and +13.5%, respectively).

Computing services continued to be the most representative activity (37.1% of total services rendered; +1.7 p.p. than in 2021) and the one that grew the most in 2022 (+26.3%; +20.4% in 2021). Comparing with 2019, the sector grew by 68.1%. In this activity, the GVA and the GOS increased by 25.6% and 12.1%, respectively.

Accounting, auditing and consulting activities remained as the second most representative activity (25.9% of total services rendered), having grown by 19.7% (+14.2% in 2021), thus surpassing by 31.4% the value recorded in 2019. 

In the total of Business Services sector, the five largest companies accounted for 24.1% of the total services rendered in 2022 (22.6% in 2021). By activity, this concentration indicator ranged from a maximum of 83.9% in Computer facilities management services to a minimum of 8.3% in Architectural activities.
