Summary
In 2004 tourist travel by residents increased by 22.2% year-on-year. Overnight stays in hotels rose by 15.1%, when compared with the previous year. The Algarve region continued to be the main destination selected by residents for recreation and holidays, with 30.5% of overnight stays, while visits to relatives and friends were mostly directed to the Lisboa region, which received 27.5% of overnight stays.
